Specter X

When you think of your favorite bands, or better yet are asked to describe them, the first means of doing so is referring to whatever genre it is that they are pidgeonholed -I mean defined- to(by). Fortunately, with local Boulder trio Specter X, that is not the case. The group delivers an original and very tight expression (especially for a crew that has only been together for about a year) that ranges from punk -which seems to be the group’s spirit- to funk and eighties pop, their sarcastic sense of humor. As a live act, their intensive harmonies are realized on a more consistent level, and more fully translated, than most signed-nationally touring acts. Their sense of the world music community is definitely apparent in the delivery of both, their material and the unusually welcomed (by this article’s writer, anyways) covers they come through with. This, combined with a genuine consciousness presented through poignant songwriting makes Specter X a great evening of live music that, even though it may be more than pure rock, definitely does rock (even in a local coffee shop). Specter X is Devin Lilies on drums, Ian Hannson on bass and vocals, Ramaya Soskin on lead guitar and vocals.
